Mauritius confers its highest honour ‘Order of the Star and Key of Indian Ocean’ on PM Modi

The Ministry of External Affairs in a statement said that PM and Mauritius President exchanged views on deepening the special and close bilateral ties between India and Mauritius.

Later PM Modi with Mauritius President Dharambeer Gokhool and Prime Minister Navin Ramgoolam visited the Ayurveda Garden in the State House, established in collaboration with the Government of India.

It comes as a matter of pride for our Nation that our PM Modi was bestowed with the topmost honour of Mauritius, the Grand Commander of the Order of the Star and Key of the Indian Ocean on Tuesday 11 March.

According to Ministry of External Affairs he is the first Indian PM to receive the honour
the 21st international honour bestowed upon him by a foreign country.

Reportedl, PM Modi landed in.Mauritius early on Tuesday and called on the President of Mauritius Dharambeer Gokhool at the State House. As a special gesture PM Modi handed over Overseas Citizenship of India (OCI) cards to President Gokhool and First Lady Vrinda Gokhool.
Later, President Gokhool hosted a state lunch for the Indian PM.

Later in the course of the day, PM Modi also paid homage at the samadhis of
Sir Seewoosagur Ramgoolam and
Sir Anerood Jugnauth at the Sir Seewoosagur Ramgoolam Botanical Garden, where he was accompanied by the Prime Minister of Mauritius Navinchandra Ramgoolam.

Amidst a press release, PM Modi recalled the enduring legacies of the two leaders in the progress of Mauritius and building a robust foundation for India Mauritius ties.

PM Modi addressed a meeting of the Indian community in Mauritius and recalled the historic and cultural links that exist between India and Mauritius. He thanked Mauritius for its highest honour done to him.
It is a recognition and honour of the historic ties between India and Mauritius and an honour to those Indians who for generations have served Mauritius.

Today, Wednesday, 12March, he will be the chief guest at the National Day celebrations of Mauritius.

PM Modi further added that he had a great meeting with His Excellency Mr. Dharambeer Gokhool, President of Mauritius, well acquainted with India and Indian culture.

He also expressed gratitude for inviting him to be a part of the National Day celebrations of Mauritius. In his post on X he wrote that he. discussed how to further boost bilateral ties across diverse sectors.

Modi also said that
it was an honour for him to attend the National Day celebrations of Mauritius as chief guest for the second time.
He gifted Mr.Gokgool with holy Sangam water from Maha Kumbh in a brass and copper pot, and makhana, Bihar’s super food.

He also presented Gokhool with a Banarasi silk saree from Varanasi in an intricately inlaid Sadeli box from Gujarat.
After the talks, President Gokhool hosted a state lunch in honour of PM Modi

PM Modi also visited the Ayurveda Garden in the State House, established in collaboration with the Government of India.

The PM said Mauritius is an important partner for India in advancing the benefits of traditional medicine, including Ayurveda.
Adding that it is commendable that an Ayurvedic Garden has been built in the State House in Mauritius. He was also happy that Ayurveda is gaining popularity in Mauritius. President Dharambeer Gokhool and he visited, the Ayurvedic Garden, and got the opportunity to see it firsthand.
Earlier, Mr. Modi received a warm welcome at the airport upon his arrival in the country after nearly a decade. His last visit to Mauritius was in 2015.
