Uddhav Thackeray hits out at Maha Govt over summons to Kunal Kamra

Shiv Sena (UBT) chief Uddhav Thackeray hits out at BJP Mahayuti Government over the summons sent to
stand-up comedian Kunal Kamra, and asked why the government had not sent a single summons to actor Rahul Solapurkar for “insulting Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj” in a podcast.

In the midst of a show in Mumbai, Kunal Kamra had used the word ‘gaddar ‘ (traitor) to allude to Shiv Sena leader and Maharashtra Deputy Chief Minister Eknath Shinde, who rebelled against Thackeray and split the party in 2022.

Amidst the press conference he asked two summons were sent to Kamra for insulting a ‘traitor’, but didn’t send a single summons to Solapurkar? You can’t tolerate someone calling you ‘gaddar’ or traitor. You break his studio. What right do you have to attack Kamra when you don’t take any action against those who insult Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj.

“The vandalism carried out at Habitat (where Kamra’s show was held) was not by the Shiv Sena, but by Gaddar Sena. There is only one Shiv Sena. The other party is Gaddar Sena.

Meanwhile, the Mumbai Police said Kamra was asked to appear before the police on March 31.
The Shiv Sena, however, said it was losing its patience over the matter. According to Maharashtra Minister Shambhuraj Desai, they have been asked to stay quiet by their leader. But their atience is wearing thin now. If we hit the streets, we have the capability to drag him out. But we have restrictions as we are sitting in the government. But we will tell the police that they should not test our patience anymore. They should give him third degree [torture] treatment.”
‘Probe accounts’

A war of words broke out amid Shiv Sena social media in-charge Rahool Kanal and Kamra. Kanal sought an inquiry into Mr. Kamra’s financial transactions. “Shall share more than 300 screenshots of payments received after multiple videos against out respected PM Modi and others.

Scrutiny of such accounts is very important and you can see Canadian accounts and Khalistan money coming in,” Mr. Kanal posted on the social media platform X.

He submitted a letter to the Khar police seeking a probe into the “illegal transactions” pertaining to Mr. Kamra’s YouTube channel.
Kamra posted on his social media handle, “To all those hounding for a quote – “The mainstream media at this point is nothing but a miscommunication arm of the ruling party. They are vultures who report on issues that don’t matter to the people of this country. If they all shut shop from tomorrow till eternity they will be doing favour to the country, its people and their own children.”
