Raakhee”s patriotism unfolds at Goa airport’s Coffee Shop

Legendary actress Raakhee Gulzar’s display of patriotism unfolded at a Coffee Shop at the Goa Airport on a regular day.

Following the screening of Amaar Boss at the International Film Festival of India (IFFI), directors Shiboprosad Mukherjee and Nandita Roy, along with Raakhee, were awaiting their flight to Mumbai. It was amidst relaxing at the airport’s coffee shop, an incident occurred that brought out the fierce pride of the legendary actress.

A foreign footballer attempted to pay for his order with a slightly torn Indian currency note. The shopkeeper politely declined the note, explaining it was damaged and thus unacceptable. The player seemed irked, and that’s when Raakhee intervened.
Inspecting the note herself, she asserted calmly but firmly, “This is fine. Why won’t you accept it?” Notwithstanding her assurance, the shopkeeper held his ground. The footballer, growing impatient, muttered under his breath, “This only happens in India.”
That’s when the atmosphere changed.

Raakhee’s expression hardened and her eyes sparked with a quiet fury as she rose to her full stature and responded, “How dare you say that? India is our motherland. You’re here to play — learn to respect other countries first!”
Those around fell silent, struck by the weight of her words and the strength in her voice. There was no mistaking the love and pride she held for her country — a moment that reminded everyone that patriotism doesn’t always wear a uniform or wave a flag; sometimes, it’s a voice that refuses to stay quiet.

Recalling the incident, director Shiboprosad Mukherjee shared, “Seeing Raakhee so passionately defend the country was unforgettable. No matter our age or fame, the bond with one’s motherland remains unshakable.”
