Remembering Yunus Parvez ‘Chacha’ of ‘Deewaar’
Veteran actor Yunus Parvez, passionately remembered as ‘Rahim Chacha’ from Deewar and Amitabh Bachchan’s ‘Guru’ wasn’t just an actor, but was highly-educated.
Born around 1932; he started acting from an early age .He was an excellent student and graduated from Allahabad University. Amidst his college days, he was taught by Amitabh Bachchan’s father, the legendary poet and writer,
Dr. Harviansh Rai Bachchan. Even as a student, Yunus actively participated in college plays, where his powerful performances and dramatic flair earned him multiple accolades. His performance often stole limelight in the cultural scene of the university.
Over the years, Yunus Parvez has acted in over 200 films and has left an indelible mark with every character he portrayed. Interestingly, the veteran actor shared screen not only with Amitabh Bachchan but also with his son, Abhishek Bachchan in Bunty Aur Babli, where he played the role of a hotelier.
Yunus made his film debut in 1963 with Kan Kan Mein Bhagwan and later went on to feature in several films projects including Bharat Milap, Saheli, Alibaba and Forty Thieves, Pinjre Ke Panchhi, Haseena Maan Jaayegi, Pyar Ki Kahani, Zanjeer, Hera Pheri, Yaaron Ka Yaar, Trishul, Deewar Ahsaas, Do Aur Do Paanch, Dostana, Insaaf Ka Tarazu, Lawaris, Laila, Mr. India, and Dil Pardesi Ho Gaya.
Notwithstanding having appeared in 200 films, the actor largely remained as a side hero. He also tried his luck in politics and contested the 1998 elections from Samajwadi Party, but couldn’t win.
He breathed his last in 2007 at the age of 75 due to acute diabetes.
