Homebound” stands 2nd runner-up at Toronto Film Festival
Notably, Neeraj Ghaywan’s directorial ‘Homebound’ clinched the second runner-up position in International People Choice Award category at TIFF 2025.
The announcement was made on Sunday amidst TIFF’s 50th edition, featuring a strong global line-up and a significant presence from Indian cinema.
‘Homebound’, featuring Ishaan Khatter and Janhvi Kapoor, was accorded a standing ovation in the midst of its North American premiere at the festival. The film won acclaim from both audiences and critics for its layered storytelling and performances, marking a noteworthy moment for Indian filmmakers on the world stage.
Neeraj Ghaywan was ecstatic at the recognition, stating, “Thrilled to announce that his directorial film HOMEBOUND just won theTIFF International People’s Choice Award as a second runner-up!! The filmmaker also took pride in being nominated and winning alongside Park Chan-wook and Joachim Trier.
The International People’s Choice Award results saw South Korean director Park Chan-wook’s ‘No Other Choice’ take the top honour, with Joachim Trier’s ‘Sentimental Value’ as first runner-up. ‘Homebound’, directed by Ghaywan and supported by an ensemble cast including Vishal Jethwa, was named second runner-up in this highly competitive category.

Earlier this year “Homebound’ had its world premiere earlier in the Un Certain Regard section at the Cannes Film Festival. Karan Johar, Adar Poonawalla, Apoorva Mehta, and Somen Mishra, alongside co-producers Marijke de Souza and Melita Toscan Du Plantier produce the film while Martin Scorsese is the executive producer.
This year’s TIFF also featured several other Indian films, such as Anurag Kashyap’s ‘Bandar’ and Jitank Singh ‘Gurjar’s Vimukt/In Search of The Sky’, signalling increasing global interest in Indian storytelling.
‘Homebound”s narrative follows two childhood friends in North India pursuing their dream of joining the police, exploring their struggles and aspirations.
‘Homebound’ releases theatrically on 26 September
