Anupam Kher recounts his meet with Kishore Kumar

No doubt Bollywood fans love stories from the 70s and 80s. Back then, stars were approachable, unfiltered, and PR-free, making every encounter feel real and entertaining.
In the midst of a recent appearance on The Kapil Sharma Show, Anupam Kher shared some amusing behind-the-scenes stories from his early acting days.
Anupam narrated his first meet with Kishore Kumar near Mehboob Studio in Bandra. The legendary singer approached Kher’s taxi in a dhoti, creating a memorable first encounter
Following the release of his movie Saaransh, Anupam Kher found walking to work awkward. He would ask the taxi driver to take him to Bandra station, then “forget something” to reach the studio.
Later met Kishore Kumar at Wembley Stadium for a concert. Elated to hear his favourite song, he watched the singer rehearse passionately.
Amidst rehearsal, Kishore sang “Zindagi Ki Yehi Reet Hai” in a slightly different note. Kher, being a fan, politely pointed out the variation.
Kishore asked, “Who sang the original?” When Kher replied, “You,” Kishore humorously shot back, “Toh aapke baap ka kya jaa raha?” and returned to singing.
Amid splits he left the studio. Musicians and co-stars were amused, highlighting Kishore Kumar’s witty and playful personality.
Kishore Kumar wasn’t just funny; he was a musical genius. He could sing in any style, sad, romantic, or dance numbers, with unmatched skill and emotion.
The incident shows that even a fan or actor couldn’t question Kishore’s mastery. His confidence and talent demanded respect from everyone around him.
Beyond singing, Kishore’s personality made him memorable. His humour, style, and spontaneity continue to make fans laugh and admire him decades later.
Anupam Kher’s story reminds why Kishore Kumar remains a legend. His songs, charisma, and quirky anecdotes still resonate with Bollywood lovers today. Anupam Kher has shared screen space with Amitabh Bachchan and Amrish Puri
