Honey Irani recalls she wasn’t credited as Co-writer in DDLJ poster

Honey Irani is am incredible screenwriter but ironically was denied co-scripting credit for Aditya Chopra’s Dilwale Dulhaniya Le Jayenge and vowed never to work with YRF again.

She got the first break as a screenwriter A screenwriter with Yash Chopra’s 1991 cult classic Lamhe. But, after that was never credited for co-writing his son Aditya Chopra’s 1995 seminal directorial debut Dilwale Dulhania Le Jayenge.

Sometime in October 1995, Honey Irani walked into the Yash Raj Films office in Andheri, Mumbai. She was the most excited because, years after getting her big break with the prestigious banner, it was eventually time for fresh talent to step in. Aditya Chopra, the son of YRF founder Yash Chopra, was all set to release his directorial debut Dilwale Dulhania Le Jayenge that month on October 20.

However, when she saw the poster of DDLJ she was in for a big shock that her name was nowhere in the poster at the YRF production house. The poster showed DDLJ written and directed by Aditya Chopra. Infact she had invested a couple of years into the script of DDLJ along with Aditya. She was even around on the sets in Switzerland, helping the actors with their lines.
