‘Mahal’ marked the directorial debut of Kamal Amrohi, who transformed Ashok Kumar’s chilling tale into a suspenseful horror narrative. His unique vision combined gothic elements with Indian sensibilities, creating an atmosphere of mystery and romance that set the foundation for future Bollywood horror films.

The film proved a turning point for Madhubala, who played the mysterious woman. The role established her as one of Bollywood’s leading actresses and a screen icon.
