Mukesh Ambani enters Snack Market: challenge to Haldiram Britannia PepsiCo

A new development in Reliance Industries as plans are afoot by the chairman Mukesh Ambani to enter the snack market which will be a challenge to Haldiram and Britannia.

The company’s plan to enter into the consumer markets, especially snacks has triggered a competition.

In a bid to challenge Haldiram and Britannia, Mukesh Ambani, one of Asia’s top business tycoons, is set to enter 8snack market. Acknowledged for his successful ventures in telecom and the soft drink sector with Campa Cola, Ambani now aims to challenge some of the biggest names in the snack industry.

Following the success of Campa Cola, where Ambani’s competitive pricing strategy took on global giants like Pepsi and Coca-Cola, he is now bringing chips, namkeen (savory snacks), and biscuits to the market under similar pricing tactics. His company Reliance Consumer Products, is offering a higher-than-usual margin to retailers, with a 6.5 per cent margin compared to the 3-5 per cent typically seen in the industry.

The brand for the snacks by the Reliance Consumer Products will be under the names Alan Bugles and Snactac, while the biscuit line will be called Independence.

In addition to offering competitive pricing, Ambani’s company is giving retailers a generous 20 per cent margin, much higher than the 8-15 per cent margin offered by other snack companies. Distributors will also benefit from an 8 per cent margin and a 2 per cent performance-based incentive.

Currently, the Indian snack market is dominated by established players like Britannia, Haldiram’s, and PepsiCo. However, with the snack market growing rapidly, expected to nearly double in value by 2032, Ambani’s entry is set to stir up fierce competition. Experts predict the market will continue to expand at a rate of about 9 per cent per year.

Reliance Industries is a group of several companies owned by Mukesh Ambani. It is regarded as one of India’s largest private sector corporation.
