Notedly, the Amitabh Bachchan–Shashi Kapoor starrer and Manmohan Desai directorial Suhaag was one such film, where Manmohan Desai had to wait for six months to cast Parveen Babi in the film.
The film’s muhurat took place in 1976 amidst the Emergency, causing several production hurdles.
Due to restrictions, many key scenes were shot in Singapore and London. This was considered a major step for a low-budget film of that era.
Parveen was chosen for a significant role in the film. But her sudden decision to travel to London with her
then-boyfriend, Kabir Bedi, created uncertainty for director Manmohan Desai.
Regardless considering Simi Grewal, Desai waited six months for Parveen. He believed only Parveen could portray the modern, foreign-educated character perfectly.
When Parveen suddenly returned to India, she was surprised to learn her role was still reserved for her. Soon after she wrapped up her portions.
Eventually, Suhaag released in 1979 and turned out to be a collosal hit. Audiences lauded the film for its performances, music, and timeless star cast.
