Dense fog preventsPM Modi’s Chopper from landing in Taherpur

Reportedly, a dense fog prevented PM’s chopper to land in Taherpur and returned to Kolkata airport after hovering over the helipad ground

Prime Minister was waiting at the airport for further updates on the weather situation. He was set to lay the foundation stone and inaugurate national highway projects at Ranaghat in Nadia district.

It wasn’t immediately clear if PM Modi would reach the rally venue district by road or whether he would wait for the weather to clear up and make another attempt to reach Taherpur by the aerial route.
Earlier in the day,
PM Modi landed in Kolkata at around 10:40 am and took a chopper onward to Taherpur in Nadia district, where he was scheduled to hold an administrative programme to launch highway projects in West Bengal, followed by a political rally of the BJP, titled Parivartan Sankalpa Sabha.
Amid addressing the rally, Prime Minister Modi apologised for being unable to reach the venue due to adverse weather. This prompted him to speak virtually at the event.
As per a statement the PM’s office, he was to inaugurate and lay the foundation stone of two National Highway projects worth around Rs 3,200 crores. He was to inaugurate the 66.7 km-long 4-Laning of the Barajaguli – Krishnanagar Section of NH-34 in Nadia.

As per the statement the projects will serve as a vital connecting link amid Kolkata and Siliguri. They will help to cut-down travel time by approximately 2 hours, ensuring faster and smoother movement of vehicles for unhindered traffic flow, reduced vehicle operating costs, and improve connectivity between Kolkata and other neighbouring districts of West Bengal, as well as with neighbouring countries.

After concluding his visit in West Bengal,
PM Modi embarked on a two-day visit to Assam on Saturday, where he undertook a walkthrough and inaugurated the New Terminal Building of Lokapriya Gopinath Bardoloi International Airport.
