Meet Dr. T. A. Kanagaratinam ₹10
Doctor of Tamil Nadu

The end of this era feels incredibly like a profound desiderium forwhat used to be. This refers to the distress, asset depletion (spending savings), and the need for coping behaviors (like skipping treatment) caused by medical bills.
It highlights that for many, the financial burden creates a secondary, sometimes worse, illness than the one being treated.

But,.Dr. T. A. Kanagaratinam chose a path that now feels almost unimaginable.

Dr.T.A. Kanagaratinam, the legendary “₹10 Doctor” from Pattukkottai, Tamil Nadu, breathed his last at 96. His passing away markes the end of an era of selfless service. For over 60 years, he treated the underprivileged for a nominal fee of ₹10, championing compassion over commerce. He is a true, albeit often unsung, hero.
He edicated over six decades to treating the poor, daily-wage workers, and expectant mothers in Pattukkottai.
He believed medicine was a mission, not a business, often waiving fees for those unable to pay.

He represented a rare, noble, and compassionate form of medical practice in a highly commercialized healthcare landscape.

He is remembered as a “rare gem” and a “true healer”.
