Karan Johar puts to rest rumours of sequel to Kabhi Kushi Kabhi Gham

Recently Karan Johar officially put to rest reports of a sequel to the 2001 classic Kabhi Khushi Kabhie Gham (K3G), stating that he would “never” make a K3G 2 and would not tamper with the nostalgia of the original film.

Karan dismissed rumors that his upcoming projects are related to a derivative of the 2001 movie, calling a sequel a recipe for “disaster” due to the high emotional value fans place on the original.

Although K3G 2 is not happening, reports suggest his next directorial venture is a high-scale family drama set to start pre-production in 2026, while it isn’t a direct follow-up to the 2001 film.
The director also confirmed that his ambitious period drama Takht is not being revived at this time.

Regardless early 2026 rumors suggesting a remake or sequel (sometimes referred to casually by fans as “K3G 2” or “K3G-style drama”), the director has firmly clarified his stance against bringing back the iconic characters.
