Going by reports, ‘Queen of melody Lata Mangeshkar had strongly opposed to singing the song”Main Kya Jaroon Ram Mujhe Buddha Mil Gaya from Raj Kapoor directorial ‘Sangam’ released in 1964
She considered it to have suggestive or “cabaret-style” lyrics.
Raj Kapoor had to convince her that it was a clean, comical song over a married woman teasing her husband before she agreed to record it. She was so displeased with the situation that she did not see the film’s picturization and was angry with RK Films.
Notedly the song’s massive popularity and Vyjayantimala’s performance as Radha highlighting her comedy flair and changing costumes gave her iconic status.
Meanwhile, Raj Kapoor’s Mera Naam Joker ran for 4 hours and 15 minutes, while Sangam was for 3 hours and 58 minutes. Those were truly golden times for movie lovers, where spending such long hours immersed in cinema was a cherished experience.
