Bollywood legend Mumtaz had expressed intense sadness over the demolition of Indian Cinema’s only Superstar Rajesh Khanna’s iconic “Aashirwad” bungalow on Mumbai-Bandra’s Carter Road, which was sold after his 2012 death and torn down in 2016.
The actress described it as an emotional loss, revealing a shared dream that the ‘Superstar’s home would be turned into a museum.
Mumtaz referred to Khanna as her “hero” and maintained strong, lasting memories of the landmark, calling it a “monument” to his stardom.
Mumtaz indicated that the idea to convert the bungalow into a museum was a significant dream for the home’s future.
Reportedly, the bungalow was sold to businessman Shashi Kiran Shetty for ₹90 crores and later demolished to construct a new four-story building, marking the end of an era.
Mumtaz questioned the sale of the landmark residence, highlighting her distress over losing a piece of film history.
