In a new development the Delhi High Court has passed an interim injunction (a temporary stop order) freezing the assets of the late industrialist Sunjay Kapur in a ₹30,000 crore estate dispute, granting relief to his children with actress Karisma Kapoor. The court noted “suspicious circumstances” surrounding a 2025 Will presented by Kapur’s third wife, Priya Sachdev Kapur, who is currently restrained from selling or transferring the assets.
The court ordered a status quo on the estate and prohibited the creation of third-party rights (i.e., selling or transferring) over the assets.
Restrictions were placed on the operation of foreign bank accounts and cryptocurrency holdings linked to the estate.
The children (Samaira and Kiaan Raj Kapur) challenged the authenticity of the Will that designated Priya Kapur as the sole beneficiary. The court determined that the burden lies on Priya Kapur to address concerns regarding the estate’s management.
The ruling follows a high-profile legal battle, with the court stressing the need for the protection of assets until the dispute is resolved.
