CM Devendra Fadnavis Inaugurates much-awaited ‘Missing Link’ Project on Mumbai–Pune Expressway

Mumbai-Pune Expressway “Missing Link” project was inaugurated on
May 1, 2026 by MaharashtraIt’s a ₹6,695 crore infrastructure project designed to bypass the congested Khandala Ghat section. It reduces the commute by 6 km and saves 30 minutes, featuring Asia’s widest tunnel and India’s highest cable-stayed bridge, significantly speeding up travel time

A 13.3-km alignment with two major tunnels and two cable-stayed bridges (including a 650-meter bridge over Tiger Valley).
Distance/Time Reduced: Shortens the journey by ~6 km and reduces travel time by 20–30 minutes.

Contains a 1.75 km tunnel and an 8.9 km tunnel (8-lanes), recognized as among the widest road tunnels.
Initially open to light motor vehicles and buses to avoid ghat congestion
