Veteran actor-filmmaker Aamir Khan has officially confirmed that the
much-anticipated sequel to 3 Idiots is in development with director Rajkumar Hirani. The story takes a 10-year leap and explores the lives of Rancho, Farhan, and Raju, but it has reportedly faced some delays as Aamir Khan prioritizes other projects
Aamir Khan further confirmed that writer Abhijat Joshi and director Rajkumar Hirani have penned a “beautiful and unusual” core story that maintains the humor of the original film.
Aamir Khan’s meticulous script expectations mean the screenplay is still being polished. To ensure quality, the “3 Idiots” sequel is expected to begin shooting in late 2027, as Aamir has prioritized dates for director Ashutosh Gowariker’s sports biopic.
The original cast, comprising Aamir Khan, R. Madhavan, and Sharman Joshi, is expected to return.
