Shilpa Shirodkar openly credits veteran star Mithun Chakraborty (often called “Dada”) for giving her the first major break in Bollywood, rescuing her career after early rejections.
After being labeled as “jinxed” or “unlucky” when initial projects were shelved, she landed her debut in the 1989 film Bhrashtachar thanks entirely to his recommendation to director Ramesh Sippy.
I Am Here Because of Him”: Shirodkar’s famous quote acknowledging how Mithun Chakraborty helped her launch her career despite producers writing her off as a panauti (jinxed).
Before her debut, Shirodkar faced harsh rejections and had multiple big films shelved, leading industry insiders to inappropriately brand her. Rikku Rakesh Nath (who was also Madhuri Dixit’s manager) took her photo album to Mithun and asked him to recommend the aspiring actress. Without any hesitation, Mithun immediately called director Ramesh Sippy, advocating for her and securing her a role as a blind girl in the 1989 movie Bhrashtachar.Discipline and Hard WorkFeeling the pressure to prove her mentor right, Shirodkar treated every shoot with extreme dedication. Because Mithun was incredibly busy working multiple shifts, she religiously attended rehearsals, practicing single shots 20 to 30 times so there would be absolutely no retakes. They went on to collaborate on several other hits, including Trinetra, Swarg Yahan Narak Yahan, and Hitler.
