Notwithstanding the BJP’s attempts to bring the two NCP factions under one umbrella, a merger remains stalled as Sunetra Pawar and MP Parth Pawar refuse to cede ground to Sharad Pawar and Supriya Sule.
The BJP is attempting to compel the reunification of the NCP and NCP (SP) into a single entity before the parliamentary monsoon session to boost the NDA’s numbers and grant ministerial berths.
Sunetra Pawar and Parth Pawar are firmly opposed to the merger because they do not want to hand control of the party back to Sharad Pawar and Supriya Sule.
To prevent losing ground, the mother-son duo is demanding that Sunetra retain the NCP national president post and the Maharashtra Deputy Chief Minister position in the event of any unification.
Maharashtra Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis has held multiple closed-door meetings with Parth Pawar and rival faction leaders in Mumbai to negotiate the terms of the power-sharing deal.
