Meta has issued an official statement following the temporary removal of a video featuring Prime Minister Narendra Modi from its Facebook platform. The company confirmed the content was blocked due to an automated technical error and has since been fully restored.
As per Meta spokesperson, the video was removed in error by their automated enforcement systems,” adding that no sooner they became aware of the issue, took immediate steps to restore the content. They regretted the inconvenience caused.
Following the incident, the Ministry of Electronics and Information Technology (MeitY) summoned Meta officials to explain the glitch. The government has reiterated its stance on the need for absolute reliability in content moderation algorithms, especially concerning high-profile public communications. Meta has assured the government that it is reviewing its automated review processes to prevent similar false positives in the future.
