Indian Cinema’s legendary actress Rekha is to be honoured with the prestigious ‘Excellence in Cinema Award at the 26th Edition of Indian Film Festival of Melbourne.
In a fitting tribute to her unparalleled body of work, the festival will host a special screening of her magnum opus, “Umrao Jaan” honouring an extraordinary contribution to Indian cinema that spans over
five remarkable decades.
Rekha’s journey in Indian cinema is a compelling saga of resilience and reinvention setting foot in the industry as a teenager, initially she encountered harsh criticism over her appearance and weight. Through sheer determination and unwavering self-belief, she transformed herself into one of the most glamorous and revered icons of the silver screen.
Her absolute mastery over the Hindi language and classical dance forms, achieved through years of rigorous dedication, turned early professional rejections into the foundation of a legendary career. Rekha’s filmography reads like a masterclass in cinematic versatility.
