The steady, comforting click of the city’s meters will soon carry a heavier rhythm for millions of daily commuters. Kicking-off from September 1, the Mumbai Metropolitan Region Transport Authority(MMRTA) will implement a revised fare structure for both autorickshaws and iconic black-and-yellow taxis. The minimum fare for a rickshaw ride will creep up from ₹26 to ₹27, while the threshold for a taxi ride will climb from ₹31 to ₹33.
This marginal yet impactful shift reflects the grinding financial pressures felt on the ground. Rising fuel prices, steeper maintenance expenses, and climbing insurance costs have squeezed the livelihoods of local drivers, forcing the regulatory body to balance the scales.
The new rates will ripple across Mumbai and several sprawling sectors of the Mumbai Metropolitan Region (MMR).
