Ajit Doval, National Security Advisor, while speaking at the 62nd convocation of the Indian Institute of Technology (IIT) Madras(Chennai), presented an optimistic vision for India’s future as the nation drives toward its centenary of Independence in 2047.
Doval highlighted India’s transformative journey, noting that the country has steadily moved away from an era marked by shortages and limitations into a new age defined by boundless opportunity, innovation, technological capability, and rising global influence. He suggested that sustained economic growth over the coming decades could expand the national economy several times over, potentially catapulting India’s GDP close to $32 trillion by 2047, alongside a substantial rise in per capita income.
A major focus of the NSA’s address was India’s unprecedented demographic strength. Doval projected that the country will boast a working-age population of nearly 1.1 billion people by 2047, positioning India with one of the world’s largest pools of skilled human resources. He contrasted this unique advantage against the sharp demographic decline, aging populations, and workforce shortages currently facing several developed economies.
Turning to technology, Doval lauded India’s landmark progress in indigenous 5G networks. He urged the graduating students to actively spearhead advancements in rapidly emerging fields, including artificial intelligence, advanced manufacturing, and strategic technologies.
He emphasized that technological self-reliance and national security must progress hand-in-hand, anchored by robust institutions, strategic thinking, and long-term planning.
Concluding his address, Doval described India’s youth as the decisive “X factor” capable of turning the nation’s highest ambitions into reality. He noted that as India marches toward 2047, its ultimate strength lies in the talent, confidence, discipline, and determination of its younger generation.
