Some Bollywood photographs are interesting because of the people in them, and this is one of those.
Jaya Bachchan and Rekha belong to a generation that defined Hindi cinema through the 1970s and 80s. Their filmographies include very different kinds of roles, from mainstream hits to films built around strong characters. Both also worked with some of the biggest directors and actors of their time.
Deepika Padukone represents a much later generation. By the time this photograph was taken, she had already established herself as one of the leading actresses of contemporary Hindi cinema. Gauri Khan comes from a different side of the industry altogether, working primarily as a producer and interior designer and as the co-founder of Red Chillies Entertainment.
The 22nd Annual Star Screen Awards brought these very different careers together under one roof. Jaya, Rekha and Deepika also make for an interesting reminder of how much the Hindi film industry changed between their respective generations.
