In a significant move, the Maharashtra government responded to intense student demonstrations in Pune by establishing a high-level committee to overhaul the Maharashtra Public Service Commission.
Senior IAS officer and Food and Drug Administration Commissioner Tukaram Mundhe will serve as the secretary of this newly formed panel.
The committee is headed by retired Bombay High Court Judge Dilip Bhosale, with IPS officer Laxmi Gautam and retired judge P D Naik serving as members.
The panel has a strict sixty-day deadline to investigate administrative loopholes, review examination protocols, and submit a comprehensive reform report.
As part of the structural shake-up, current MPSC Chairman Vivek Bhimanwar has gone on leave for the duration of the investigation.
State officials have also pledged to fill seventy thousand public posts over three years, expand upcoming Group C vacancies, and withdraw police cases against the student protesters.
Following these major policy concessions from the government, the agitating aspirants officially ended their ten-day sit-in protest at the S M Joshi Bridge.
