It’s a matter of pride that US singer Mary Millben lauded the Centre’s Citizenship (Amendment) Act and expressed her thanks to PM Modi and Amit Shah for their “compassionate leadership and most importantly for upholding religious freedom in welcoming those persecuted”. This comes at a time when in our own country some people are against its implementation.

In her post on X (formerly twitter) she wrote that this is a pathway towards peace, and a true act of democracy.

She also went on to articulate that as a “Christian, woman of faith, and global advocate for religious freedom, she lauds the PM Modi-led government announcing the implementation of the Citizenship (Amendment) Act now granting Indian nationality to persecuted non-Muslim migrants, Christians, Hindus, Sikhs, Jains, Buddhists, and Parsis from Pakistan, Bangladesh, and Afghanistan”.

Notedly, her statement came following the Union Home Ministry’s notification of the implementation of Citizenship Amendment Act (CAA) rules.
The announcement was made days ahead of the Lok Sabha elections schedule.

The CAA was introduced by the PM Modi government and passed by Parliament in 2019. It aims to confer Indian citizenship to persecuted non-Muslim migrants – including Hindus, Sikhs, Jains, Buddhists, Parsis, and Christians – who migrated from Bangladesh, Pakistan, and Afghanistan and arrived in India before December 31, 2014.

Speaking to a news channel recently, Home Minister Amit Shah asserted that the BJP-led central government will never compromise with CAA. Adding that this is our sovereign right to ensure Indian citizenship in our country, and will never compromise on it.The opposition is also aware that it has bleak chances of coming to power.
