Mumbai: Three men have been taken into custody after a 25-year-old-led group allegedly attacked a man with a knife near St. Rock Church in Kalina, Santacruz East, in the early hours of September 30, following a dispute linked to the online game Free Fire.
According to the complaint, the incident took place around 1:30 a.m. in front of the church at Kunchi Korvi Nagar. The complainant, Salman Farooq Shah (23), had been sitting on the church steps with his brother Dilshad Shah and several friends. Feeling hungry, he went home to Kismat Nagar, Kurla West, to eat.
While he was away, Arbaz Shah, a friend from his native place, phoned him and abused him, leading to an argument over the phone. The quarrel reportedly concerned a Free Fire game ID linked to Arbaz’s Facebook account. To settle the matter, Salman gave Arbaz his brother Dilshad’s mobile number.
Shortly afterwards, when Salman called Dilshad, a friend named Sameer answered and said Arbaz had slit Dilshad’s throat with a knife. As Salman headed towards Kalina, an ambulance arrived carrying Dilshad and two friends, Parvez and Arbaz. Dilshad had serious throat wounds and was bleeding heavily, Salman said.
Parvez and Arbaz told him that the accused, Arbaz Shah, had stabbed Dilshad in the throat and tried to kill him. Police said the accused allegedly believed the complainant and his brother had been using his Facebook ID to play the game, which enraged him.
A case has been registered against Arbaz Shah, Musahid Wakil Ahmed Khan, Kausar Ali Jameel Shah and Anas Sayyed under Sections 109, 118(1), 351(3), 352 and 3(5) of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS).
Three of the accused are in custody: Musahid Khan (19), a ward boy from Jogeshwari; Arbaz Shah (25), from Goregaon West; and Kausar Ali Jameel Shah. Police are searching for the fourth accused, Anas Sayyed (21).
Further investigation is underway.
