Despite Mumbai persisted to experience heavy rain and waterlogging in some parts of the financial hub on Monday, IMD issued red alert, forecasting heavy rain for parts of central Maharashtra till July 24.

The IMD had predicted heavy rain for Mumbai city, suburbs, and neighbouring Thane on Monday and even issued a high tide alert for the afternoon. While the IMD has issued yellow alert for Mumbai and Thane on Tuesday, it has predicted heavy rain with orange alert on Wednesday.

Heavy downpour since Saturday evening led to waterlogging and traffic chaos in many parts, with the authorities on alert. A mobile tower crashed in Bhandup damaging three-four houses. No loss of life was reported. Images of waterlogged police stations also surfaced on social media.

Reportedly, the National Disaster Response Force (NDRF) teams were deployed across Maharashtra amid the heavy rainfall warning. Apart from regular deployment at Mumbai and Nagpur, NDRF teams have been deployed at Vasai,Thane, Ghatkopar, Powai, Kurla

Amidst next days, widespread light to moderate rainfall accompanied with thunderstorm & lightning likely over the region.

Meanwhile, strong winds (30-40 kmph) are very likely over south peninsular India amidst the next two days.
