Jyotika spills beans on negativity surrounding Kanguva

Suriya’s much-awaited period action drama, Kanguva, directed by Siruthai Siva, hit the screens on November 14, 2024. While Bobby Deol plays the antagonist, the film has received mixed responses from critics and audiences. Many viewers expressed disappointment with its execution, despite its grandeur and ambitious storytelling.

Amid this criticism, actress and Suriya’s wife Jyotika took to Instagram to defend the film and address the negative reviews. Sharing her thoughts, she expressed disappointment with the way the film was judged and highlighted its positives.

Jyotika strongly criticized unfair reviews, saying, that she was surprised with the negative reviews from media and certain fraternities, as it’s not done by them to this high level for the most unintellectual big-budget films she has seen earlier with age-old stories, where women are stalked, double meaning dialogues spoken and have the most over-the-top action sequences.”

She pointed out Kanguva’s strong points, adding:
“What about Kanguva’s positives? The women action sequence in 2nd half and the young boy’s love and betrayal for Kanguva? The makers forgot about the good parts while reviewing.

Speaking on the negativity surrounding the film, she wrote: “Now this makes her wonder largely whether one should ever read, listen or believe them after all! It’s sad that they chose this much negativity for Kanguva on day 1, even before the first show was over (seemed more like multiple group propagandas) when it actually deserves an applause for the concept and effort taken by the team to create 3D and such a magnificent visual!”

Jyotika encouraged the Kanguva team, concluding: “Be proud Team Kanguva, as the ones commenting negative r doing just that and nothing else to their credit to uplift cinema!”

Her comments have sparked mixed reactions on social media, with some agreeing with her defense of the film, while others felt the criticism was valid. Despite the divided reviews, Kanguva is performing well at the box office, with collections expected to cross Rs. 110 crore today. Its long-term success will depend on its performance in the coming weeks.
