Ashutosh Gowariker opens up on collaboration with AR Rahman

Notably, AR Rahman has composed music for many Ashutosh Gowariker’s films and shared long working relationship with the filmmaker.

Ashutosh Gowariker goes on to recall on composer AR Rahman, with whom he has collaborated on all but three of his films.
He said that Rahman was supposed to compose the music for his 2008 release What’s Your Raashee? but since he was getting Hollywood offers, he couldn’t accommodate him. In 2008 film Slumdog Millionaire was released, winning Rahman two Oscars. In an interview, Gowariker said that he tells Rahman that he deserves thanks for ‘allowing’ him to pursue Hollywood offers and went on to add that he Rahman had to take a gap after Jodhaa Akbar because he was busy with lHollywood offers.

He was assigned with the Slumdog Millionaire project. But, Ashutosh wanted him to do What’s Your Raashee? as well, but it couldn’t happen. Even today, Ashutosh sometimes tell Rahman, ‘You should thank him for the Oscars he won, because he allowed himv(Rahman) to go to Hollywood.
