Rajesh Khanna’s first lady love-Surekha not Anju Mahendru-Dimple Kapadia

Many may not be aware that Surekha was Rajesh Khanna’s First Woman with whom the love remained unfulfilled.

The super love amidst those tender years often referred to as adolescence. The story of his first love is mentioned in his biography, The Untold Story of India’s First Superstar, written by Yasser Usman.

Rajesh Khanna brought meaning and life to the word “stardom.” The actor made his fans, especially female fans, go gaga over him.

Amidst his career, Rajesh Khanna delivered several hits and quickly rose to superstardom. Khanna not only made headlines for his acting career, stardom, and fan following but was also often in the news for his love life. Rajesh was reportedly in a seven-year-long relationship with actress Anju Mahendru.

The couple lived together, but after seven years, they parted ways, citing compatibility issues. While many may think Rajesh, fondly called Kaka by his fans, first fell in love with Anju, but someone else had already stolen his heart before her.

Rajesh Khanna fell in love during those tender years often referred to as adolescence. The book reveals that the name of the girl was Surekha, who lived in the same building as him.

The biography mentions that Surekha was six or seven years older than Khanna. In his biography, Rajesh Khanna shared details about his love story during a conversation with film writer Bunny Ruben. The actor recalled his first girlfriend, saying, “I must have been around eleven or twelve years old, and she was probably sixteen or seventeen.” One day, after much persuasion, he got a new model bicycle and was riding it outside his building. Suddenly, he lost his balance and fell. His feet were bleeding, and seeing this, he started crying.

Later, Surekha came out of the building with a bottle of antiseptic and helped Rajesh Khanna clean his wound. She also wiped his tears, and the actor then and there fell in love at first sight.

Recalling this moment, Rajesh Khanna said, that was the moment he fell in love for the first time.

He further recounted that Surekha tore strips of cloth from an old sari to bandage his knee, and while doing so, she brought her face very close to Jatin’s. Rajesh Khanna shared, “Before he could understand what was happening, she kissed him. He recalled blacking out after that moment.

Gradually, the closeness between the two grew, and they started spending more time together. Khanna began sharing his heart with her. However, before their story could move forward, it came to a standstill. One day, when Khanna came back from school, he found a lock hanging on Surekha’s house.
He later learned that Surekha had moved to her hometown and got married as she had already turned 18. This broke Rajesh Khanna’s heart, and eventually, his first love remained incomplete.
