Shabana Azmi opens up about her collaboration with stepson Farhan Akhtar and daughter-in-law Shibani Dandekar on Dabba Cartel.
The Akhtar family often headline due to their unique family dynamics. Recently, veteran actress Shabana Azmi made her debut in the show Dabba Cartel, produced by Farhan Akhtar, Shibani Dandekar, and Ritesh Sidhwani.
In a recent interview, Shabana shared her experiences working with her stepson Farhan and his wife Shibani, offering a peek into their professional relationship and family bond.
She reflected on how it felt to collaborate with them on the project, explaining the ease with which they worked together regardless the challenges of the pandemic. She showcased family relationships can naturally extend into the workspace, and how the trust and camaraderie between them made the experience smoother.
Amidst an interview with Netflix India’s YouTube channel, Azmi said, “No, it wasn’t really like that. The circumstances were much more dire than this.” She continued, adding a lighthearted touch, “because her daughter-in-law wrote it and her son was producing it, so how dare she, and that too amidst COVID, say no to this. So she accepted it.
In a 2023 interview with she opened up on her close bond with Farhan and Zoya Akhtar, which she attributes to their mother, Honey Irani.
She shared, that they are very friendly and he shares great relationship with them based on friendship and trust. She values Farhan and Zoya very much and thinks they value her. Thinks a lot of that credit goes to their mom Honey (Irani).she must say that she was very generous. Had she decided that the kids would not be friends with her then they couldn’t have been friends with her.” This statement highlights the strong foundation of respect and trust that has defined her connection with the Akhtar siblings.
Shabana further emphasized her respectful approach to family matters, saying, “she had to accept in all honesty that she owes it to Honey that she has such a beautiful relationship not only with her children but also with her. They had a beautiful, happy bond. And she doesn’t poke her nose in their business. If she feels there is something they would rather not talk about, she never talks about it.” This showcases her understanding and sensitivity, allowing her to maintain a harmonious relationship with both Farhan and Zoya.
