In the midst of the global surge of Covid-19 experts say that Medical experts have reassured the public that the cases being reported so far are mild and not comparable to the deadly waves that overwhelmed the world between 2020 and 2022. According to Dr Daksha Shah, executive health officer at the Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation (BMC), stated there is no cause for concern at the moment. With the rise in cases in Singapore Dr Pratit Samdani also confirmed that he had treated over six Covid-positive cases in recent days. “Most of them initially seemed like common flu cases, but the tests confirmed Covid. Notably, the affected individuals were mostly young and not part of the elderly demographic, which is typically more vulnerable to severe illness from the virus.
Internationally, the situation appears more serious. Singapore’s health ministry has reported a 28 per cent spike in estimated Covid cases, reaching about 14,200 in the first week of May. Hospital admissions there have also risen by 30 per cent amidst the same period. Regardless the numbers, Indian doctors maintain there is no reason to panic. Dr Thacker noted that the Indian population has built up a strong level of immunity against the virus over time.
