India and Bangladesh will continue to work together for the welfare of their people, guided by mutual respect and understanding.
The interim government shared both the letters on X post on Sunday.

In the letter dated June 6, Yunus said Modi’s message “reflects the shared values” between the two countries. He also sent his best wishes to the Indian PM and the people of India.
He wrote :he is confident that the spirit of mutual respect and understanding will continue to guide their nations to work together for the wellbeing of their people.
Adding that Eid-ul-Adha is a “time of reflection, which brings communities together in the spirit of festivity, sacrifice, generosity and unity, and inspires us all to work together for the greater benefits of the peoples across the world.

Meanwhile, in his letter PM Modi described Eid-ul-Adha as “an integral part of the rich and diverse cultural heritage of India. Adding He that the festival “reminds us of the timeless values of sacrifice, compassion and brotherhood, which are essential in building a peaceful and inclusive world.” Eid-ul-Adha is one of the main Islamic festivals.

Hasina found refuge in India, and when her party, the Awami League, was banned in May 2025, Dhaka accused New Delhi of interfering in Bangladesh’s politics.
Economic troubles are also making things worse. Bangladesh faces around $10 billion trade deficit with India.

The recent Eid-ul-Adha greetings exchanged on June 8, 2025, between PM Modi and Chief Adviser Muhammad Yunus, could be a tentative push to mend ties amid these longstanding challenges.
