An American Airlines Delhi-New-York made an emergency landing at Heydar Aliyev International Airport (GYD) due to a medical emergency involving a passenger.
The Boeing 787-9 Dreamliner landed safely in Baku at 02:30 local time, ensuring immediate medical intervention for the unwell traveler.

It’s learned that amidst its transcontinental journey from India to the United States, the American Airlines flight encountered a health-related emergency midair.

The captain made a request for diversion to Heydar Aliyev International Airport (GYD), the primary international gateway in Azerbaijan, to secure urgent care for the affected individual.
Upon arrival, local medical teams boarded the aircraft and administered emergency aid. The passenger was stabilized and taken for further observation.
Authorities have not disclosed the nature of the medical condition, but confirmed that the situation was handled swiftly and in accordance with established international protocols.

The aircraft remained grounded for several hours even as the necessary medical and administrative procedures were completed. It finally took-off from Baku at 10:31 local time, resuming its route with a new flight plan routing through London (LHR) instead of directly to New York (JFK).
