Kangana compares her humble roots to SRK’s values-based education
Actress-politician Kangana Ranaut recently opened up that her success is not similar to other mainstream actors of the Hindi film industry. She mentioned that her background has been humble and simple, contrary to values-based education of stars like Shah Rukh Khan.
The actress briefed on her film career at an event held in New Delhi late last week. Amidst her media briefing, she stated “Why did she get so much success? There is probably nobody else who came from a village and accomplished such success in the mainstream. People talk about Shah Rukh Khan. They are from Delhi, convent-educated, whereas she was from a village that nobody would have even heard of – Bhambla.”
Adding that maybe others may disagree, but it’s her feeling because she is brutally honest, not just with people but with herself too.
The actress hails from Bhambla (now Surajpur), a hamlet in the Mandi district of Himachal Pradesh. She shifted to Mumbai as a teenager in a bid to pursue her passion for acting. She made her debut at 19 with ‘Gangster’ and went on to establish herself by playing unconventional roles in films like ‘Woh Lamhe’, ‘Life in a Metro’, ‘Fashion’, ‘Queen’, ‘Tanu Weds Manu’ and ‘Tanu Weds Manu Returns’.
Kangana’s last theatrical release was ‘Emergency’ in 2025 in which she played the lead role as former Indian PM Indira Gandhi. The movie was her directorial and produced by her featuring featured Anupam Kher, Shreyas Talapde, Milind Soman, Mahima Chaudhry, Satish Kaushik and others in key roles. The actress is the proud recipient of four National Film Awards and a Padma Shri, India’s fourth-highest civilian honour.
Kangana gears up to make her Hollywood debut with the
horror-drama ‘
“Blessed Be the Evil’. She has teamed up with Lions Movies for the Anurag Rudra directorial, which also features Scarlet Rose Stallone, daughter of Sylvester Stallone, and ‘Teen Wolf’-fame Tyler Posey.
‘Blessed Be the Evil’ theatrically releases in 2027.
