Nupur Alankar quits B’town after 150 shows to embrace “Sanyasin”
Actress Nupur Alankar after entertaining millions through more than 150 TV shows and films, suddenly opted to distance from the glitzy industry for something entirely different.
Acknowledged for her roles in iconic shows like Shaktimaan, Swaragini, Diya Aur Baati Hum, and Ghar Ki Lakshmi Betiyaan, and in films like Raja Ji, Saawariya, and Sonali Cable, she opted for ‘Sanyasi⁶
It was in 2022 that she renounced acting and all worldly desires to become a sanyasini. Her decision left the entire industry shocked, but she decided to choose the path of meditation, simplicity and devotion.
After the passing away of her mother in December 2020, Nupur felt a deep void. She said that was the moment she realised she had nothing left to lose and decided to dedicate her life to the divine.
Under the guidance of Guru Shambhu Sharan Jha, she enbraced Sanyas, renouncing material comforts, fame and social life to embrace simplicity, meditation and self-realisation.
Sharing over her transformation journey, Nupur revealed that she had always been inclined towards spirituality. “Mera jhukaav hamesha se adhyatm ki aur tha aur main lambe samay se iska paalan kar rahi thi. Ab maine khud ko poori tarah samarpit kar diya hai,” she was quoted as saying by India.com.
No red carpets, no makeup. Her mornings now begin with meditation, prayers and seva (service).
Her husband, Alankar Srivastava, respected her decision completely. He even released her from marital commitments so she could pursue her spiritual journey freely without any worldly ties.
Nupur now lives a life of minimalism and meditation. She eats once a day, sleeps on the floor and lives on bhiksha (alms). For her, inner peace replaced the spotlight.
While the entertainment world still remembers her vibrant on-screen presence, Nupur said she has eventually been at peace. “Yeh industry dikhave aur banavat se bhari hai; main sachchi shaanti mehsoos karti hoon isse door rehkar,”
