Renuka Shahane slurs trolls for body-shaming Aishwarya Rai Bachchan
Veteran actress Renuka Shahane defended Aishwarya Rai Bachchan against body-shaming trolls, urging fans to celebrate her achievements instead of judging her looks.
Actress Renuka Shahane has spoken out in defense of Aishwarya Rai Bachchan, condemning trolls for body-shaming the actress over her weight gain and red carpet appearances.
Aishwarya, who has represented India on countless international platforms, is often targeted for her looks instead of being praised for her career longevity and global impact.
“If You Don’t Have Anything Nice To Say, Just Shut Your Mouth”
In a recent interview, Renuka passionately addressed the criticism surrounding Aishwarya’s red carpet appearances, particularly after she turned mother.
It doesn’t take one minute for a big company to drop you. And she has been the brand ambassador for the company for years, representing us year in and year out. And all we can think of is ‘Oh, she wore this, it didn’t look good.’ Please don’t do this. If you don’t have anything nice to say, just shut your mouth,” she said firmly.
On the pressure Aishwarya faces in the age of Social Media
Renuka highlighted how social media has intensified public scrutiny, placing unrealistic expectations on women in entertainment.
Adding actresses today face immense pressure. There’s constant judgement, and people forget they are humans first,” she remarked.
She furtheradded that the obsession with appearances has only worsened in recent years, turning social media into a space where celebrities especially women continuously dissected for every outfit, pose, or candid moment.
Renuka further criticised the industry and public for expecting female stars to instantly return to their pre-pregnancy physiques. “There’s so much expectation placed on women — to be perfect, to look perfect, to act perfect — and it’s just not fair.
Even Aishwarya’s husband, Abhishek Bachchan, had earlier addressed the issue, calling the remarks about his wife’s body “deeply insensitive.” In an interview with DNA, he stated, “It’s disgusting how people feel entitled to comment on a woman’s body, especially after childbirth. It says more about them than it does about her.”
Through her statement, Renuka Shahane reignited a much-needed conversation about body positivity and respect for women in the public eye. Her words serve as a reminder that Aishwarya Rai Bachchan’s legacy — as an artist, mother, and global icon — deserves admiration, not mockery.
