5 year old Gujarat boy today is star cricketer-Jasprit Bumrah

This story refers to the early life of the Indian pacer Jasprit Bumrah.

Ahmedabad, Gujarat, born Bumrah in1993, lost his father when he was only five years old. He was raised by his mother, Daljit Bumrah, who worked as a school teacher to support the family. 

Due to financial constraints, he had limited possessions as a child, owning only one pair of shoes and a single T-shirt that he would wash daily.
He taught himself to bowl on the streets of Ahmedabad, developing a unique “slingy” action.
His talent was spotted in a video in 2012 by John Wright who was at that time around was leading to his selection for the Mumbai Indians in the IPL in 2013, eventually emerging as a world-renowned cricket star. 

With no fancy facilities, he taught himself to bowl on the streets of Ahmedabad, developing the characteristic slingy action the world now recognizes instantly.

In the midst the early hours of the player’s IPL career with the Mumbai Indians, Mitchell Johnson noticed his unusual bowling action and raw pace amidst
practice.

Johnson, who used ASICS shoes himself, gifted the player a pair of ASICS bowling shoes.
His first pair of high quality shoes.
Years later, the same boy who once struggled to afford shoes became a global ambassador for ASICS.

From IPL newcomer to India’s strike bowler, he went on to take 400+ international wickets and become one of the most feared fast bowlers in the world.

And today, that boy from Ahmedabad stands tall as a T20 World Cup 2026 champion for India.

Meanwhile, today the World knows him as Jasprit Bumrah.
