Zayed Khan recalled that Shah Rukh Khan directly asked him, “Can you act?” before casting him in Main Hoon Na without a formal audition. The opportunity arose unexpectedly when Zayed visited Farah Khan’s office, thinking he was there to discuss choreography for a different project.
Shah Rukh Khan entered the room and asked Zayed, “Don’t listen to what she [Farah] is saying; they have called him over because they are considering him for a role.
Zayed was cast instantly without a traditional audition, although Farah Khan did call him later to send his measurements.
Reportedly, the role of Lucky was initially offered to Hrithik Roshan, then considered for Abhishek Bachchan and Sohail Khan before ultimately going to Zayed.
Zayed was so thrilled about landing the role in what would become a massive hit that he recalled being genuinely ecstatic, telling interviewers, “he remembers being so excited that he went on to hug a tree”.
