Anil Kapoor recalls a flop film produced by his father featuring Rajesh Khanna

Veteran actor Anil Kapoor recently recalled how a flop film produced by his father, Surinder Kapoor, featuring superstar Rajesh Khanna, caused severe financial ruin and led the industry to abandon him. While not explicitly named by Anil as the biggest flop in his recent interviews, he noted it was a film featuring Rajesh Khanna that was expected to be a hit but failed, leaving his father “penniless” and in tears.
Following the failure, Surinder Kapoor was deserted by industry colleagues; Anil famously recalled that when his father travelled to Bangalore, no one was at the airport to receive him.Anil’s Debut & Struggle: Witnessing his father’s vulnerability and bankruptcy forced a young Anil Kapoor (around 18-19 years old) to become a lead actor to support his family, vowing to make his father proud. Regardless his father being a producer, Surinder did not make things easy, and Anil had to find his own debut, beginning with smaller roles in Hamare Tumhare (1979) and later Telugu/Kannada films, before getting recognition with Woh Saat Din (1983).: Surinder Kapoor was known for his honesty and integrity, producing films like Phool Khile Hain Gulshan Gulshan and Hum Paanch, but faced severe professional downfall after the Rajesh Khanna project, which the industry used to snub him.
