Actor and frequent co-star Abhimanyu Singh recently defended journalist Saurabh Dwivedi following the heavy trolling of his acting debut in the Netflix series Kartavya. Singh noted that while Dwivedi is an exceptional journalist, “acting is a completely different craft” and cannot be mastered overnight, comparing an unskilled acting attempt to “putting your hand in a snake pit.
Abhimanyu Singh’s exact phrasing during his conversation with Hindi Rush sheds more light on the nuance of his comments.
On professional skills, he explained, “Aap ek field mein bahut acche ho, iska matlab yeh nahi ki doosri field mein bhi utne hi acche ho jaoge. Woh bahut acche journalist hain. Lekin acting alag cheez hai”.
And to clarify the gap between reviewing and doing, he stated,
“Ho sakta hai aap bichchu ka zeher utaarna jaante ho, lekin iska matlab yeh nahi ki aap saanp ke bill mein haath daal do”.
Notwithstanding pointing out the craft’s difficulty, Singh mentioned he harbors no ill will toward public figures transitioning, stating he is “happy for them” as long as they can “encash” the opportunity and make a living.
Kartavya, a crime thriller featuring
Saif Ali Khan, premiered on May 15, 2026. Dwivedi (the founder of The Lallantop) played a shadowy spiritual leader named Anand Shri.
Meanwhile, viewers and social media users widely panned Dwivedi’s performance. Many criticized his dialogue delivery, claiming it felt like he was “reading news scripts” rather than acting naturally.
The online mockery generated notable viral memes, which many noted inadvertently increased public curiosity and buzz around the show’s overall release.
