In the midst of the evolving crackdown on hygiene by FDA Commissioner Tukaram Mundhe in Mumbai, an inspection took place at a sweet shop in the Maudaha area of Hamirpur district, Uttar Pradesh (falsely attributed in some early social media posts to Himachal Pradesh).
Amidst a pre-festive food safety raid led by the Sub-Divisional Magistrate (SDM) and local police, officials handed the owner a piece of silver-leaf coated sweet and challenged him to eat it.
The owner flatly declined, stating that the products were not good for his health.
Meanwhile authorities ordered the remaining loose sweets to be thrown into the dustbin and collected official samples for laboratory testing.
