A $5 Billion Vision: India andUzbekistan forge a strategicHorizon

Reviving the timeless echoes of the historic Silk Road for a modern era, India and Uzbekistan officially elevated their bilateral relations to a Comprehensive Strategic Partnership on August 30, 2026.

After visionary high-level talks in Tashkent between Indian Prime Minister Modi and Uzbek President Shavkat Mirziyoyev, the two nations committed to a bold new economic roadmap, setting an ambitious target of $5 billion in annual bilateral trade by 2030. This milestone aims to multiply the current volume of exchanges fivefold.

Underpinning this upgraded diplomatic architecture, the two governments signed 11 pivotal agreements and Memorandums of Understanding (MoUs) spanning multiple sectors. A landmark development includes a formalized framework ensuring the long-term supply of uranium from Uzbekistan to India, cementing robust civil-nuclear cooperation and clean energy security.

Furthermore, both leaders expanded their cooperative scope into frontier domains, charting joint initiatives in:Critical Minerals & Mining: Exploration, processing, and integrated value chains.Digital Public Infrastructure: Integrating cutting-edge financial tech, including India’s UPI.
A shared, zero-tolerance resolve against terrorism, extremism, and regional instability.
Letters of intent focusing on the conservation of sacred Buddhist heritage sites like Fayaz Tepa and Kara Tepa along ancient Central Asian paths.

Amidst the Bi-lateral Summit PM Modi stated that:
“We are celebrating the 15th anniversary of our strategic partnership. I am delighted that, on this special occasion, we are elevating our ties to the level of a Comprehensive Strategic Partnership.

President Shavkat Mirziyoyev echoed this sentiment, emphasizing mutual readiness: “We will prepare roadmaps for each of these sectors; specific teams from India will visit here, and our teams will travel to India, enabling us to clearly define our objectives.

As joint business summits and ministerial-level commissions take shape, New Delhi and Tashkent stand poised to turn shared historical affinity into a vibrant, future-ready economic powerhouse.
