At the grand title track launch of the upcoming musical drama Yeh Prem Mol Liya, acclaimed music composer Himesh Reshammiya candidly shared his perspectives on the visible decline of traditional, organic music in contemporary Hindi films.
Speaking before an exclusive audience at Mumbai’s Royal Opera House, Reshammiya highlighted how the pressure to generate instant, algorithmic hits has altered the creative landscape.
“If you make a song with the intention of it being a hit on reels, it’s not organic,” the veteran composer observed, pointing out the industry’s shift away from structural, collaborative songwriting.
Addressing the technical challenges facing vocalists today, Reshammiya noted a distinct lack of boundaries that once protected artists’ natural strengths. “Earlier, singers would sing within a boundary; now there is so much confusion. Everyone has an opinion. It has become sectional.” He emphasised that for music to regain its universal appeal, the industry must re-focus on tailoring compositions to a singer’s specific vocal range, rather than forcing uniformity.
Defending filmmakers against widespread criticism, he added, “It’s not the producer or director’s fault; the math is complicated.”The grand musical evening marked a major promotional milestone for Rajshri Productions’ Yeh Prem Mol Liya, directed by maestro Sooraj R. Barjatya and starring the fresh pairing of Ayushmann Khurrana and Sharvari. The project reunites Barjatya and Reshammiya following their massive musical collaboration on Prem Ratan Dhan Payo.
Yeh Prem Mol Liya features an expansive, soulful soundtrack designed to revive the classic roots of family entertainers.
The film is scheduled for a worldwide theatrical release on November 27, 2026.
