The Food and Drug Administration (FDA) has confiscated approximately 6.34 lakh kilograms of suspected adulterated food items during a series of special enforcement drives conducted for the Ganeshotsav festival. Amid heightened monitoring to ensure public safety during the festive season, regulatory teams intercepted massive quantities of sub-standard and contaminated food products intended for widespread distribution.
The seized inventory primarily includes essential festive ingredients such as mawa, sweets, edible oils, and dairy products, all of which failed to meet prescribed safety and quality benchmarks. Officials confirmed that statutory samples have been collected and dispatched to state laboratories for rigorous chemical analysis, with formal legal proceedings and strict punitive action to be initiated against non-compliant manufacturers and vendors pending the final test reports.
The apex regulatory body has reiterated its zero-tolerance policy toward food adulteration, assuring the public that intensified surveillance and surprise inspections will continue across all processing units, wholesale markets, and retail outlets throughout the remainder of the festive period.
