Chhatrapati Sambhaji Nagar Municipal authorities launched a swift and dramatic crackdown on unauthorized constructions at properties belonging to All India Majlis-e-Ittehadul Muslimeen corporator Matin Patel. The high-profile enforcement action follows serious allegations that Patel provided shelter to a prime suspect evading arrest in the Nashik TCS case.
The operation commenced in the early hours of Wednesday morning in the Naregaon and Kausar Baug areas, where heavy machinery and earthmovers rolled in under substantial security cover. A deployment of approximately 100 civic officials alongside police personnel cordoned off the area to ensure the systematic dismantling of the targeted residential and office structures.
The action was initiated after the Chhatrapati Sambhajinagar Municipal Corporation issued a 72-hour notice regarding the legality and approval documents of the buildings. Following the expiration of the deadline, and without a dynamic stay order from the local courts, civic squads proceeded to raze the unauthorized portions of the leader’s home and commercial office space.
The enforcement drive directly intersections with an ongoing high-level investigation handled by the police. Matin Patel was recently named as a co-accused for allegedly harboring Nida Khan, a suspended Tata Consultancy Services employee arrested on May 7 from a property linked to the corporator.
Reportedly Khan is the principal subject in a Nashik-based case involving multi-layered allegations of workplace sexual harassment, coercion, and hurting religious sentiments.
Local authorities emphasized that the demolition was an independent enforcement of municipal bylaws targeting illegal encroachments and lacked relation to punitive measures, reinforcing their stance that unapproved structures will face standard legal penalties regardless of political affiliation.
The administrative push drew immediate criticism from opposition political leaders, who staged symbolic protests at the site and claimed the rapid demolition circumvented standard legal protocols. Municipal commissioners refuted these claims, maintaining that the action strictly adhered to established guidelines and standard statutory notices.
