After the much-anticipated teaser drop for Netflixs upcoming 1980s gangster drama “Akka”, versatile actress Radhika Apte has opened up about her intriguing new role and what compelled her to join the project. Produced by YRF Entertainment and marking the directorial debut of Dharmaraj Shetty, the series unfolds in Pernuru, a fictional South Indian kingdom built, governed, and protected entirely by generations of powerful women.
The gritty narrative follows the escalating friction between two formidable forces, with Keerthy Suresh portraying the ruthless local crime matriarch Bhavani and Radhika Apte essaying Rudra, a fierce rebel whose arrival directly challenges the long-standing power structure. Expressing her excitement about the projects launch, which uniquely coincided with co-star Keerthy Sureshs birthday, Apte described Rudra as a fascinating character driven entirely by her own convictions and an innate instinct to challenge the world around her.
The actress, who has a celebrated history of delivering breakout performances on Netflix through acclaimed titles like Sacred Games, Ghoul, and Lust Stories, explained that the true pull of Akka lay in the deep complexity of its characters and the intense narrative tensions that naturally emerge from their completely differing perspectives.
Apte further noted that collaborating with YRF Entertainment on a story filled with such deeply layered characters has been an incredibly rewarding creative experience, adding that she eagerly looks forward to global audiences discovering the many dimensions of Rudras journey when the female-led crime thriller officially premieres worldwide on Netflix on October 30, 2026.
