The sharp, deadpan retort came swiftly from Congress MP Shashi Tharoor when cornered by journalists in Thiruvananthapuram regarding Rahul Gandhi’s reported four-day trip to Vietnam.
As the opposition alliance faces off with the ruling party over electoral roll protests and the Chief Election Commissioner, critics questioned why Gandhi travelled abroad amidst ongoing demonstrations in Delhi. Tharoor batted away the line of questioning with trademark linguistic economy, pointing out that personal itineraries are outside his portfolio and asking why his own presence in Kerala should require justification.
The unsparing remark went viral across social media platforms, capturing attention as the latest exhibit in Tharoor’s long-running masterclass on handling a press gaggle.
